SEO these days doesn’t just mean having the right words on your page (known as 'keywords'). It means having great content for your customers, backed up by a proper structure, good layout and a fast loading, desktop and mobile site. There are hundreds of factors that go into it, but the key is to focus on your website copy – the content you write.
As part of a new website build, I’ll make sure everything is optimised. Or if you have an existing site, I can help you re-jig things and optimise it all.
SEO is not a ‘set it and leave it’ process, but for smaller businesses, once you’re set up, it’s just a case of following certain rules. If you’re a big business, well then, they probably won’t be reading this as they’ll have their own SEO team!

Website Speed
Did you know that a slow website causes custoemrs to just leave? Infact just a couple of extra seconds can cut your conversion rates and hence your sales quite dramatically.
I know a thing or two about speeding up websites - just take a look at mine for instance:
That's crazy fast! Even on a mobile, this site is very well optimised to load as quickly as possible (in under a second! 0.922 seconds to be exact).
If you're interested in what all this means, here's a brief explanation:
- Grade - This is how fast the site is and how well it has been put together in the eyes of Google.
- Largest Contentful Paint - How long it takes for the largest, most prominent piece of the site to come into view. In the case of my site, that's the header image.
- Total Blocking Time - How long the site is delayed for while other parts of it load. For example external files such as Google Analytics. We can't control the size of these elements, but we can control when and how they get loaded, which cuts down on loading times.
- Cumulative Layout Shift - Have you ever landed on a website and started reading, only for the content to jump a few seconds later? This gives an indication of how much the content shifts. In the case of my website, it's insignificant as all content is delivered in a timely manner.
The more complicated a website gets, the more external requests a site makes and the larger the file size. The good news is we aren't exactly living in the 90's anymore on dial up connections, so our computers are faster and our internet connections are too. It is still a really good idea to keep these things in mind, as it does make a difference. Would you have visited my site if it took 10 seconds to load?
